International social protection conference in Haiti

An inclusive social protection system, combined with a rights-based approach, is the best way to protect people from structural problems such as poverty and inequality; and against cyclical risks such as illness, unemployment, accidents at work and aging. These issues and more were discussed at an international conference called Social Protection in Haiti: Towards the Development of a New Policy? In Port au Prince, Haiti from 27-29 May 2015. The conference was organised by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour (MAST) with the active participation of the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
