ESCAP Workshop on Strengthening Social Protection in Bhutan

A multi-stakeholder workshop was held with the aim of building the capacity of stakeholders in Bhutan to design and manage inclusive social protection policies. The Workshop on Social Protection in South and South-West Asia was held on 2 April 2014, at the Taj Tashi hotel in Thimpu. The workshop was co-organized by ESCAP, the Ministry of Education and the Disabled Persons’ Association of Bhutan (DPAB). Social protection and disability experts from Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka also joined the workshops to share their countries’ initiatives to broaden social protection with Bhutanese meeting participants. The experts actively engaged in discussions and group activities to analyse and draw lessons from good practices from across South and South-West Asia. During the workshop, ESCAP also presented the Social Protection Toolbox.
